Overview

One of the most significant parts of the Machine Listening project–especially for the first year–was the interview series, where we tried to understand and sketch a field by learning from others who were doing important work in it. While each interview can be listened to in its entirety in real time, we began to wonder about ways of listening to larger archives that allowed for new layers and new connections. Interviews were individual, but we also wanted to put them in conversation with one another. Assisted Listening became a container for a number of experimental interfaces for listening.
